Does cosmetic tattooing hurt? How to discuss sensation

If worry about pain is stopping you from considering cosmetic tattooing, start with that question. You do not need to pretend you are comfortable or choose a treatment before discussing how it may feel.

Numbing cream is used at CT, with approximately 15 minutes allowed before treatment. It helps frame the comfort discussion, but does not make everyone's sensation identical.

Break the worry into a question that can be answered

“Does it hurt?” may mean several things: fear of the first contact, discomfort close to the eyes, worry about sitting for the appointment or concern after a previous treatment. Describe which one matters. There is no useful pain score that applies to everybody and all three features.

One customer's description does not predict another's sensation. Nor should the appointment's 90-minute duration be read as 90 minutes of one unchanging sensation; it is the booked appointment duration, not a minute-by-minute procedural schedule.

What the demonstration is for

During optional Consultation, a small sensation demonstration after numbing cream may be offered. It gives you something concrete to discuss before committing, rather than asking you to imagine the feeling from an enthusiastic review. It is not a promise that every moment of a full treatment will feel identical.

Tell Nanna if you are unsure about the demonstration itself. You can ask questions without agreeing to treatment, and you do not need to minimise the concern to seem like an easy customer.

Keep comfort separate from suitability and care

Being comfortable with an idea does not settle whether the treatment is appropriate for existing tattooing or your circumstances. A past reaction, health concern or medication question needs to be raised beforehand; a beauty article should not supply a medication plan or additional numbing doses.

Aftercare is also a separate commitment. Know the practical instructions for the feature you choose so your decision covers more than the appointment itself. For Brows, read preparation for the first appointment; for Lips, read the myths and expectations guide. Those guides keep the question close to the actual treatment rather than a comparison with unrelated tattoos.

A conversation before you decide

CT's Consultation is free, optional and 30 minutes. You can ask about Brows, Lip Blush or Eyeliner appearance, colour and aftercare alongside your comfort concern. Work done by another practitioner needs Consultation and assessment before Nanna agrees to treatment.
