Eyeliner styles and eye shape: vocabulary and design considerations
Eye-shape names can help describe what you notice, but they should not decide an Eyeliner Tattoo for you. Start with the definition you want and how your usual eye makeup looks when your eyes are open.
A reference can begin the discussion. It does not establish that every wing, colour or technique shown online is offered or appropriate for your own eyes.
Ten descriptions, several different kinds of information
Eye-shape guides often mix eye outline, lid visibility, position and spacing. They are not ten mutually exclusive boxes. You can have an almond-shaped outline and a hooded lid, for example.
| Description | What to notice |
|---|---|
| Upturned | The outer corner appears higher than the inner corner. |
| Downturned | The outer corner appears lower. |
| Round | The opening looks more rounded. |
| Almond | The opening looks elongated with more tapered ends. |
| Monolid | There is little or no visible upper-lid crease in the ordinary expression. |
| Hooded | A fold covers some of the visible lid area. |
| Small | A relative size description, not a treatment diagnosis. |
| Wide-set | A description of spacing, separate from the individual eye outline. |
| Close-set | Also spacing, not an instruction for correcting the eyes. |
| Deep-set | A description of the eyes' position relative to the surrounding features. |
Use the descriptions to inspect a look
With temporary makeup, compare the line with your eyes open. If little lid is visible, a heavy line may occupy more of the visible area than you expected. If you are trying an outer flick, observe its direction in a relaxed expression rather than judging only a closed-eye image. Try a restrained version first so you can see what the change does.
Spacing labels do not mean the eyes need correcting. Compare where definition begins and how much you prefer, without treating a chart as a compulsory design. Different amounts of makeup can change visual emphasis, not the eye's physical structure.
A styling idea is not a tattoo prescription
The vocabulary can help you explain the look you want, but it does not establish a specific CT wing style, treatment technique or eligibility. A temporary makeup experiment can be removed; a tattoo decision needs its own discussion and care commitments.
Use the classic eyeliner tutorial for the removable application and Eyeliner photographs for relevant CT examples.
