lip tattoo lip blushLip blush is a technique where a soft, natural-looking lip tint is used to add definition and volume to the lips, resulting in a youthful and refreshed appearance, enhancing the natural lip shape for a more polished look.

This technique is excellent for adding symmetry, depth, and a rosy tint to pale lips, similar to the appearance of sheer lipstick or a tinted balm, giving a flush of colour that lasts all day. Lip blushing maintains its vibrancy for up to 1-2 years before needing to be touched up.

When it comes to lip tattoos, the possibilities are endless! You can totally customize your lip shape and pick the ideal shade that really suits your skin tone. Unlike regular lipsticks and glosses, semi-permanent makeup is a game-changer.

It not only lasts long but also gives you that extra confidence boost while streamlining your daily beauty ritual.

It's important to note that Nanna uses only organic vegan based pigments which are CE certified, that meets the ISO 9001 : 2015 EU regulation standard, in addition to the extremely strict German Regulation on Cosmetics and Tattoo Pigments being 100% safe, cruelty-free, never tested on animals and does not contain animal by-products.

Lip Tattoo: Side Effects What You Need to Know

When considering cosmetic tattooing of the lips, it's important to be mindful of potential risks and side effects, especially in the sensitive lip area.

Keep these risks in mind:

  • Swelling Cosmetic Tattoo needles create tiny skin injuries that trigger a natural response of swelling. Don't fret, though, as this swelling usually calms down within a few days. To ease any discomfort, consider applying cold packs to help reduce the swelling.
  • Infections An Infection after a lip tattoo can happen for various reasons. It's vital to have your tattoo artist use sterile equipment and needles. Following aftercare instructions, including using mouth rinse, is key. Lips are prone to infections due to contact with saliva, food, and drinks, especially inner-lip tattoos due to moisture and bacteria in the mouth.
  • Scarring Complications like scarring can result from ineffective healing of a lip tattoo, often triggered by allergic reactions or infections post-tattooing.
  • Allergic reactions If you have a history of skin allergies or sensitivities, talk to Nanna about hypoallergenic ink as a precautionary measure to prevent possible allergic reactions like itchiness, rashes, or hives.
  • Anaphylaxis In rare instances, a severe allergic reaction following a lip tattoo has been documented, with some individuals experiencing it shortly after the procedure.
It is common for the lips to swell post-tattooing; however, if swelling extends to the neck and cheeks, coupled with breathing difficulties, you should seek urgent medical help to address possible anaphylaxis, which can be life-threatening if left untreated.
  • Blood-borne illnesses Using unsterilized needles poses a serious risk of transmitting blood-borne diseases like hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and HIV, make sure you use a reputable cosmetic artist like Nanna who can effectively demonstrate her hygiene practices.

Exploring Different Styles of Lip Tattoo

Ombre Lip Blush
This is a variation of lip blushing where the edges of the lip are the most saturated and a gradient is used transitioning to more transparency towards the centre or inner lip, giving the optical illusion of a fuller lip.

Aquarelle Lips
This version of Lip Blush is similar to Ombre Lip Blush in reverse the lip line is excluded and the gradient gets darker towards the inner lip. This is a softer effect likened to a watercolour painting with no sharp or defined edges.

Full Lip Colour
The most dramatic of the lip tattoo options this method fills the lip surface saturating it with colour imitating wearing lipstick, it will however require 3-4 sessions to achieve the desired level of opacity as lips can only retain a specific amount of pigment at any given time.

Basic Lip Liner
This type of lip tattoo contours to the lips to correct slightly uneven lips, this is especially useful to stop “bleeding” of regular lipliner if you have aged or creased lip edges by smoothing the edges. Its also helpful by shortening your make up routine whereby you skip drawing the outside line prior to filling your lips with lipstick.

Shaded Lip Liner
A shaded liner is very similar to an Ombre Lip blush where the lip line is darkest fading to transparent however the coverage in the shaded lip liner starting at the lip line to the end of the gradient only covers half the lip and you still have some natural lip showing.

Dark Lip Neutralisation
This is a lip blush technique that is done over 2-3 sessions, the first session takes into consideration your natural skin tone and neutralises and lifts the darkness of cool skin tones with a warm-based pigment.
After the first session is fully healed you can colour with your desired shade, a third session might be needed if you would like the shade to be further brightened.
