Types of lip tattoos: what the names actually describe
Researching lip tattoos can quickly produce a list of names: lip liner, shaded liner, full lip colour, ombre lips, lip contour and Lip Blush. Before choosing from that list, separate the appearance being described from the treatment a particular practitioner actually offers.
At Cosmetic Tattooing, the current service is Lip Tattoo / Lip Blush. The other names are not a list of separate CT booking options.
Translate the names into visual ideas
Lip-tattoo names are not standardised enough to tell you the full procedure from a headline. Here are the visual ideas behind the names:
| Name you may encounter | The visual idea behind the name |
|---|---|
| Lip liner | Emphasis on the outline. |
| Shaded liner | An outline with colour blending inward rather than stopping at a hard boundary. |
| Full colour | Colour across the lip area rather than only the outline. |
| Ombre lip | A gradient or difference in colour intensity. |
| Lip tint or Lip Blush | A colour-treatment description often contrasted with an opaque lipstick look. |
| Lip contour | A description emphasising the visible boundary or definition. |
These are descriptions to clarify a conversation, not six services offered by CT. They do not establish the tool, number of passes, depth, appointment sequence or eligibility for a particular person. Different businesses may use the same name differently.
Ask what the example shows
Is the outline the main feature, or is colour distributed across the lips? Does the image show a gradient? Is it fresh work, healed work or makeup? Those questions help identify what attracts you without booking by terminology alone.
If a dark outline is what you dislike, say so. If you like a colour but not an opaque effect, explain that distinction. If physical volume is the goal, a colour name does not answer it.
Discuss the look within CT's Lip Blush treatment
For choosing colour references, read Lip Blush colour. For comparison with removable makeup, read Lip Tint Tattoo and lipstick. Describe the appearance you want rather than choosing an unlisted technique from a terminology guide.
Understand CT's appointment
Standard Lip Blush is $750 for the initial 90-minute appointment and includes one standard touch-up. Signature Extended Care Lip Blush is $997 and includes three touch-ups total: one standard touch-up plus two additional no-expiry, Lip Blush-specific credits for the original client, subject to Nanna’s professional assessment. The first touch-up is at five weeks. A free, optional 30-minute Consultation is available for colour, design, sensation and treatment questions.
Early swelling or dryness and colour changes can occur, and the visible early period is commonly five to seven days. Read lip care before treating the booking as an ordinary makeup appointment.
